May Day! May Day! (Not that kind of May Day!)
Anyone celebrate the forgotten tradition of May Day?
I remember reading about May Day in elementary school and thinking how fun dancing around a May pole would be. BUT…to the best of my knowledge, I don’t think I ever did.
This year, I decided that I wouldn’t go as far as pole dancing 😊 but I would spread a little kindness and bring back the idea of gifting cute little baskets to neighbors and friends.
May Day baskets are traditionally filled with treats, flowers and small gifts and left on the door of your beloved after dark. The bell is rung and the basket giver scampers away.
Since my beloveds live with me and would probably notice if I was scampering through the yard or the house, sneakiness is not going to work this go round.
To make my May Day baskets, I used some paper seed pots that I had laying around and filled them with a beautifully colored flower which I picked up in a pack of 6 at a local home and garden center.
I punched a couple of holes in the top of the pots with my handy dandy hole puncher and added a fancy ribbon to finish them off. I stuffed some leftover seed packets in another pot to use for my gifting as well.
With everything ready, I guess I am just going to have to wait until this afternoon to deliver the goods.
Don’t worry. If you want to participate and haven’t gotten your supplies yet, seriously don’t worry. You still have time. These literally take minutes to make and can be done for almost nothing.
On a side note, if you have flowers blooming in your yard right now, you could cut a few of those, tie with a pretty ribbon and deliver those instead.
Happy May Day Friends!
